Student Work From Courses Taught at Indiana University South Bend & University of Denver
Work by Bethany Hudak
It's a Weave by Bethany Hudak and Zorina Jerome (Author of a Michiana Monologue)
For this project I connected Bethany with Zorina, a writer for the Michiana Monologues. Bethany animates Zorina's story. The MM is a compilation of Michiana women's stories that are written by and for women. Each spring these monologues are performed for a live audience. Bethany's work was screened at the event and was also selected for the Equality/Inclusion exhibit at the Civil Rights Heritage Center of South Bend.
Equality by Sean Rowell
Sean interviews his grandma about her personal history living through the civil rights movement and her perspective of women's lib. Sean's video was selected for the Equality/Inclusion exhibit at the Civil Rights Heritage Center of South Bend.
For "The Meahing of Work" assignment, I took a handful of IUSB students from my digital storytelling course to meet Tony Sergio, a local shoe cobbler. We spent an afternoon listening and recording some of Tony's many interesting stories. Having emigrated as a boy to Germany from Southern Italy seeking employment, and then moving to South Bend in the forties, he had many heartbreaking, hilarious and entertaining stories to share rerarding transitions, work, culture and traditions, history, love, family, etc...
The following is a rotoscope animation by Erica Weidler, based on the footage we collected and a video version edited by Robb Ressler.
